The Champ Car World Series finishes up three races in row this weekend with the Champ Car Grand Prix at Mid-Ohio, Round 13 of the Bridgestone Presents the Champ Car World Series Powered by Ford. Walker Racing rookies Rodolfo Lavin and Darren Manning hope to capitalize on their opportunity to have tested at the circuit earlier this summer (30 June -- 1 July).
Rodolfo Lavin (R), #5 Corona Competition Team Ford-Cosworth XFE-Reynard-Bridgestone
"I'm happy to be going back to Mid-Ohio where we tested in late June/early July. It was a very good test for the Corona Walker Racing crew. (Teammate) Darren (Manning) and I were the fastest Reynards, which was satisfying. We tried a lot of things on the chassis and have a good idea of what works and doesn't work at that track. We still have a few things to try, but I think we have a good base set-up to start the weekend off."
Will mark his 13th Champ Car start, Will mark his first Champ Car start at Mid-Ohio, Has one previous start at Mid-Ohio contesting Indy Lights in 2000
Darren Manning, (R), #15 RAC Walker Racing Ford-Cosworth XFE-Reynard-Bridgestone
"We're learning day-by-day with the RAC Walker Racing car what suits my style of driving. We tested at Mid-Ohio earlier this summer, but we'll probably go back with a slightly different set-up than what we had in the test there because we're confident that it's going to work for us. We've also got a few additional things in our back pocket which will hopefully help push the #15 car up the speed charts. It's definitely an advantage for us to have tested there. Having the information from the test, we can roll the car out on Friday and realistically look at trying to be in the top-six rather than have the first day be such a learning curve as it's been at most tracks this season."
Will be his 14th Champ Car start and 13th with Walker Racing in 2003, Has collected five consecutive top-ten finishes dating back to the Portland event (22 June), Has eleven top-ten finishes total, Currently ranked eighth overall in the championship with 68 points, Stands second in the Rookie of the Year battle
Qualifying will air tape delayed on SPEED Saturday, 9 August at 1:30 p.m. Eastern with the race airing live on SPEED Sunday, 10 August with a pre-race show beginning at 1:30 p.m. Eastern.
