DUBLIN, Ohio (June 5, 2000) - The CART FedEx Championship Series will conduct open testing at Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course in Lexington, Ohio, on Wednesday, June 7 and Thursday, June 8. The two-day test is in preparation for the Miller Lite 200, happening August 10-13. This event is open to the public.
Twenty-four drivers are tentatively scheduled to test on the 2.25-mile, 13-turn permanent road course. Those slated to attend include Indianapolis 500 winner and defending Miller Lite 200 champion Juan Montoya, as will current CART points leader Paul Tracy and Hilliard, Ohio-based Team Rahal drivers Kenny Brack and Max Papis.
Other drivers include Michael Andretti, Mark Blundell, Helio Castroneves, Patrick Carpentier, Adrian Fernandez, Gil de Ferran, Christian Fittipaldi and Norberto Fontana. Reigning Mid-Ohio pole sitter Dario Franchitti joins the group as does Luiz Garcia, Jr., Mauricio Gugelmin, Michel Jourdain, Jr., Tony Kanaan, Cristiano da Matta, Tarso Marques, Roberto Moreno, Shinji Nakano, Oriol Servia, Alex Tagliani and Jimmy Vasser.
Due to an expanded 20-event schedule, this test session is the only chance drivers have to prepare for the August CART race at Mid-Ohio. The Miller Lite 200 is Round 13 of the CART FedEx Championship Series.
The garage paddock areas will be open, giving spectators a chance to get in the "locker room" of CART racing. Concession and souvenir stands will also be open. Parking is free. Gates open at 7:00 a.m. and CART drivers take to the track for testing at 9:00 a.m. on both Wednesday and Thursday. Testing ends at 5:00 p.m. on both days.
Tickets to the CART open testing are $10 per day. Kids 12 and under and Mid-Ohio season pass holders are admitted free.
Tickets are available at the gate or call 1-800-MID-OHIO for more information.
