Dario Franchitti's record-setting pole was the 4th consecutive pole, and the 10th this season for Honda. Since Honda entered the CART series in 1994, the manufacturer has scored 37 pole positions.
Three teams, two from CART and one from the Atlantic series call the Mid-Ohio circuit their home track. Team Rahal and the McDonald's Championship Racing Team (formerly Tasman) are both located in the Columbus, OH suburb of Hilliard, OH. Columbus is also home to Michael Shank Racing, a KOOL/Toyota Atlantic team. Sam Hornish Jr, one of Shank's three drivers, is a native of Defiance, OH.
An impromptu autograph session was put together to reward all the fans that braved the inclement weather that prevailed for most of the day. All drivers from the CART FedEx series signed autographs for an hour at their hospitality coaches at the end of the day's activities.
Paul Tracy unveiled his own line of signature sunglasses at Mid-Ohio today. The glasses are a wrap-around model and come in Team Kool Green colors with Paul's signature on the side. The glasses are available at the Team Kool Green merchandise trailer at all CART races.
The "Taste of CART" CARA charity function, held at the team's hospitality coaches, on Friday night was held under clear skies. The event, which allows fans and team members a chance to sample a variety of specialties from each of the chef's on the CART FedEx tour, wrapped up just as the skies delivered the last shower of the day. One highlight of the evening was the annual Mexican dinner held at the Payton Coyne hospitality coach. Sponsored by Herdez, sponsor of the Payton Coyne team, the dinner feature a wide array of Mexican delights.
