Notes from the Michigan 500 CART FedEx and Michigan 200 NASCAR Craftsman Truck races:

Juan Montoya's ninth win in the CART FedEx Series comes in his 31st start. In 1999, his nine wins set a record for wins by rookie. After winning the 84th Running of the Indianapolis 500 in May and the Michigan 500 today, Montoya is two for two in 500 mile races this season. Winning the Marlboro 500 at California Speedway in Fontana, Calif. will earn Montoya a one million dollar bonus.

Formula One driver Johnny Herbert attended this weekend's activities at Michigan Speedway. Herbert is interested in competing in the CART FedEx Series in 2001. Raul Boesel was also at the speedway this weekend.

Tony Kanaan returned to CART FedEx competition this weekend after breaking his arm during practice at the Detroit Grand Prix. Kanaan, who missed three races during his recovery, still wears a brace on his arm from is accident five weeks ago.

Luiz Garcia Jr. earned the "Budweiser Hard Charger Award" for the greatest improvement in track position from the beginning to the end of the race. Garcia started 23rd and finished 11th.

A rookie session was held on Friday morning featuring Alex Tagliani, Oriol Servia, Shinji Nakano, Kenny Brack, Takuya Kurosawa, Tarso Marques, Luiz Garcia Jr. and Memo Gidley.

Dale Coyne Racing rookie driver Takuya Kurosawa was released Saturday evening from St. Joseph Mercy Hospital in Ypsilanti. Kurosawa made hard contact with the turn three wall during qualifying Saturday afternoon. According to Dr. Steve Olvey, CART Director of Medical Affairs, Kurosawa sustained a minor concussion, sore neck and bruise on his left foot. Kurosawa will seek clearance from Dr. Olvey before participating in next weekend's Target Grand Prix at Chicago Motor Speedway.

Terry Cook, driver of the pickuptruck.com Chevrolet, and ESPN pit reporter Amy East announced their engagement this weekend at Michigan Speedway.

The Michigan 500 weekend included several historic champ cars on track throughout the weekend. The Marlboro 500 presented by Toyota at California Speedway will host the historic champ cars during their CART weekend October 27-29, 2000.
