Herdez/Bettenhausen Motorsports driver Michel Jourdain Jr. took 22nd spot (1'11.014) in the provisional qualifying session for the Sunday's Grand Prix of Long Beach which will be held on the 1.968-mile street circuit of Long Beach.

Michel Jourdain Jr., Car #16, Herdez/Bettenhausen Motorsports: "We had a punctured right rear tire and we couldn't changed it. That affected our performance. Also, we had lack of grip in the rear tires and they don't last long. So, we will have to work hard to improve our times for the final qualifying session."

Tom Brown, Managing Director/Chief Engineer, Herdez/Bettenhausen: "Michel (Jourdain Jr.) cut a tire on the first set, after a few laps and CART wouldn't let us replace it. We had to run the entire session in one set of tires. You can't do that and hope to be competitive."
