JOURDAIN JR. GIVES A GOOD PERFORMANCE WITH HIS BACKUP CAR

After the accident Mexican driver Michel Jourdain Jr. suffered during Saturday morning practice, he was forced to use his backup car to qualify and race. This was a 1997 Lola chassis with a 1999 package.

For the warm-up session, the Herdez backed driver was sixth, promising a good performance during the race when he reported minor understeer problems. For the race, the car had a good performance and Michel was very please with it.

Michel Jourdain Jr., Car #19 Herdez/Payton-Coyne Racing Team: "It was the best car that I ever had in Champ Series. We must plan better our pit strategy, this time it was a shame what happened. We reached the 13th spot after starting 22nd, but our last pit stop was under green and two laps later the yellows waved, pitting most of the field. That affected us a lot. However, I feel very please that all the crew and I worked together very well for this. We only missed some points as a reward."

Antonio Marron, Motorsports Director of the Herdez/Payton-Coyne Racing Team: "Michel gave an extraordinary performance. Unfortunately, about two laps later after pitting under green, we had a caution flag. All the team did a good job and that proves our potential."
