Fernandez and Nakano looking forward to challenging on the Streets of Miami.
Adrian Fernandez has displayed impressive form on the street circuits. In 49 career street-course starts, Fernandez has recorded 30 points-paying results and two wins (Toronto in 1996 and Australia in 2000). Fernandez has finished in the points at every street circuit contested this season to date, and the team's strong performance on these challenging tracks is echoed in the results of teammate Shinji Nakano, who posted his career-best Champ Car finish of fourth in Toronto. Both Fernandez and Nakano look forward to continuing this trend when the Champ Cars return to the streets of Miami this weekend.
Adrian Fernandez, Owner/Driver -- #51 Tecate/Quaker State/Telmex Honda/Lola/Bridgestone:
"Miami is such an important market for us, and it is great that we are racing there again. I remember the atmosphere in 1995, when we raced on the streets of downtown. It was incredible. We have a strong fan base in Miami and I think we will see a great turnout over the three days. On the competition side, we are very optimistic. Shinji and I have had good cars on the street circuits this year. I started second at the last street-course race in Denver and finished fourth. Hopefully we can improve on that this weekend."
FAST FACTS: Will be making his 160th Champ Car career start-- best street-course start this season was second at Denver-- best street-course finish this season was fourth at Denver-- only owner/driver in current Champ Car field--currently ranked sixth among active drivers in career wins with seven-- is ranked 10th in CART all-time career starts-- currently sits 14th in the championship with 53 points.
Shinji Nakano, Driver -- #52 Alpine/Mitsuba Honda/Lola/Bridgestone:
"I am looking forward to Miami. I feel that I have unfinished business from our last street race in Denver. [Nakano was running in third position when he retired from the race with a mechanical problem on Lap 64.] I was racing in Formula 3000 in Japan when CART last raced on the streets in Miami in 1995. I think it will be similar to the great crowds that we see at the street races like Toronto and Long Beach. Our setup for the street circuits is very good, and hopefully we will start the weekend out strong. This is a new circuit so everyone has a learning curve."
FAST FACTS: Will be making his 53rd career Champ Car start -- has 15 career street-course starts to his credit, posting seven points-paying finishes-- best street-course start this season was third at Denver-- best street-course finish this season was fourth at Toronto-- is in his third season of Champ Car competition, and second year with Fernandez Racing-- currently sits 16th in the championship with 43 points.
