Diaz advance to ninth from his tenth place starting position by Lap 2 and ran competitively in the top-ten in just his second Champ Car race before gearbox problems sidelined him on Lap 12.

"Overall it has just been a fantastic weekend! Unfortunately we didn't finish the race, but we had a great qualifying effort and were running comfortably and competitively in the top-ten. I'm so proud of the Sun- Telcel-Motorola team and Walker Racing. They've done just an amazing job for me in such a short period of time. I also have to thank my sponsors - Sun, Telcel and Motorola - again for giving the opportunity to race at this beautiful track in front of my hometown crowd."
