The impressive effort, in just his second Champ Car start, earns him the honor of the second fastest Mexican driver. Diaz showed signs of what was to follow in qualifying by posting the third fastest time in the qualifying warm-up just a few tenths of second behind Walker Racing teammate Darren Manning.
"This is such a great feeling! We had such a short time to pull together this team of young, talented professionals and they have done an amazing job for me. This is not an easy accomplishment, but it's a credit to the team as individuals and as a whole. I have to thank Walker Racing for putting the team together and for the reception that I've had from the entire team. I have to thank my engineer, Al Bodey, for today and for the other Walker Racing engineers who've worked to make the whole team strong this weekend. I'm especially grateful to my sponsors - Sun, Telcel and Motorola - for giving me this opportunity. I think the #25 car and crew are quite capable of a top-five finish in front of this fantastic Mexico City crowd tomorrow."
