The last hurrah for Team Kool Green.
Mexico City, Mexico - Emotions will be running high as Team KOOL Green heads to Mexico City this weekend to compete in the final race of its stellar history in the CART FedEx Championship. However, with the season points positions still up for grabs, TKG crew involved with both the #26 car of Paul Tracy and #27 car of Dario Franchitti, must focus their thoughts on the task at hand; securing Franchitti a second place finish in the Championship and helping Tracy maintain his top-ten standing. After six years as a top-tier team in the Champ Car series, Team KOOL Green will say farewell to its friends and supporters following the Mexico City race.
26 - Paul Tracy
(Currently 10th in the standings with 101 points)
"Mexico has so many race fans that it's going to be great to go back there and put on a good show for them. I'm looking forward to trying out this new track; it should be very interesting. This is KOOL's last race and I'd like to win this race for everyone. I've been with Team Green for the past five years and although we've had some hard times, we've also overcome a lot of challenges and had some great wins and good times along the way. All in all it's been a very good experience for me and I wish everyone well in the future."
27 - Dario Franchitti
(Currently 4th in the standings with 138 points)
"I'm still hoping that things work out in such a way that I can finish second in the standings. It won't be easy, and luck will have to play a factor if I'm going to be able to do it. But strange things can happen in racing and I've got to believe that everything is still possible. Team KOOL Green has done all they can to help me. It all comes down to this race for me. I have a good feeling about it going in. Mexican fans are extremely enthusiastic, the atmosphere is going to be awesome and I'm hoping that we can get onto the track with a fast car right off the truck and stay at the top of the charts all weekend long."
Barry Green - Team Owner
"It all comes down to this race. Dario still has a shot at second in the championship and Paul can certainly move up a few positions with a race win. It would be great to go out with a bang and post another 1-2 finish this season. It's going to be an emotional weekend, this is our last race as Team KOOL Green and it's KOOL 's last race as our title sponsor. I can't say enough about how important the relationship with Brown & Williamson has been to us, it would be great to share a last first-place trophy on the podium with them before we part."
This weekend's CART season finale in Mexico City also marks the end of the Team KOOL Green era. Formed in 1996 by Barry Green, Team KOOL Green first established its presence on the CART Champ car circuit with driver Parker Johnstone in 1997. Johnstone ran 17 races with TKG before Barry Green mounted his two-car effort in 1998 with current TKG drivers Paul Tracy and Dario Franchitti. Since teaming up in 1998, Tracy and Franchitti have combined for a remarkable 193 race starts and completed 20,029 race laps (34,691.103 miles) under the Team KOOL Green banner. With 16 victories, 11 pole positions and 48 podium appearances, including five, 1-2 finishes, the most of any CART team since 1998, Team KOOL Green has been one of the preeminent teams in the CART FedEx Championship since its inception.
Team Green's association with Brown & Williamson and its flagship cigarette brand KOOL began in 1996 when Team KOOL Green launched a two-car effort in the Indy Lights Championship with Chris Simmons and Greg Ray. B&W was also co-title sponsor of the KOOL Toyota Atlantic Championship for the 1997 and 1998 race seasons. <pre> Team KOOL Green Victory Recap
