A.J. Allmendinger, #10 Western Union
Qualified 7th Finished 3rd
American A.J. Allmendinger capped off his Rookie of the Year winning season with his second podium appearance of the year by finishing 3rd in front of 300,000 cheering fans in Mexico City at the Telemex-Tecate Grand Prix. Seizing opportunities from the start having gained a position before the end of the first lap, Allmendinger and the crew of the No. 10 Western Union Ford-Cosworth Lola Bridgestone performed two flawless pit stops that vaulted him to his third position after the first and helped him narrow the gap to second on the final stop. Trading fast laps with the eventual Series Champion, Allmendinger made his presence felt throughout the race. As a result he moves up to finish 6th in the overall championship standings.
"This is just such a great way to cap off the season. RuSPORT gave me a great car for the race today and the pit stops were perfect. I can't thank all of the team enough for all the hard work this season. This is great motivation to keep the momentum high to come back here next year and fight for wins and the championship."
Carl Russo, Team Owner
"A.J. and the team demonstrated good speed overall this weekend. We didn't execute well in final qualifying but we really executed well in the race. Good strategy, good pit stops and a great drive by A.J. That's the way to finish this season and start next year."
Michel Jourdain Jr., #9 Gigante
Qualified 10th Finished 9th
After making a superior start to gain three spots at the start and move to seventh position, hometown hero Michel drove solidly despite a car with difficult handling in the last third of the race. Before a massive crowd of 300,000, Jourdain held on to his No. 9 Gigante Ford-Cosworth Lola Bridgestone to round out his year with his 6th Top-10 finish.
Michel Jourdain Jr.
"First, I must congratulate A.J. for getting his second podium of the season. He has really proven that he is a great driver and teammate. Of course I'm disappointed with the result today; I had hoped for a better result for my fans and sponsors. At the start of the race, we had difficulty with managing the tires and then later I had a real problem with understeer. Overall, it's been a great season with RuSPORT and we've really grown and gotten stronger every weekend. Today is not the race I had hoped for, but I'm glad to finish here in Mexico City."
Carl Russo, Team President
"Michel had a tough weekend but as a Michel always does he fought through to a strong finish in front of his hometown fans. To his credit, Michel's experience and wisdom have been an asset to this team overall in what has been a very competitive and challenging first year for us as a whole."
