As RuSPORT closes in on its maiden Champ Car season, the team is proud to claim several milestones. Chief among those accomplishments is the winning of the Rookie of the Year title with 22 year-old A.J. Allmendinger. Allmendinger clinched the award at the last event in Surfer's Paradise, Australia, making him the first American to do so since John Andretti in 1991. This also marks only the second time in Champ Car history that a first-year team claimed this title.

Also among RuSPORT's credits are multiple podiums, including the team's first double podium with a 2-3 finish in Vancouver and leading several races on the way to13 top-ten finishes. RuSPORT also has the chance to finish this year with both drivers in the top-ten in the Drivers' Championship. A.J. Allmendinger currently sits in 7th overall heading into this weekend and teammate Michel Jourdain Jr. is just outside the top-ten in 11th.

This race is especially important to Michel Jourdain Jr. as Mexico City is his "home" race. Mexico City is also home to several of Michel's sponsors, including primary sponsor Gigante retail stores. He has qualified well here at the Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez; in the top-ten twice in the last three visits and has finished as high as 4th (2003).
