McDONALD'S DRIVER BOURDAIS ON PROVISIONAL POLE FOR THE GRAN PREMIO TELMEX POR BANAMEX; HOLE IN THE WALL CAMPS DRIVER JUNQUEIRA FOURTH
Sebastien Bourdais, No. 1 McDonald's Ford-Cosworth/Lola/Bridgestone:
"It is hard to say how much of the time we made up on the second run was due to the tires or due to the track, but it certainly was faster. I think the McDonald's team has elevated our game since last year here. We have picked up our pace on these types of courses since Edmonton and closed the gap to Justin here. Newman/Haas has given me a great car here and we should have a great shot for the pole tomorrow."
FAST FACTS: Will be his fourth race here. In 2005, started third but had a problem with the ECU and had to pit early where he had a troubled stop and later retired in 17th after contact with Cristiano da Matta. Started from pole in 2004, set the fastest race lap and led all 63 laps to win the race and championship but not before he overcame a Lap 41/63 mistake where he spun after having built a 17-second lead. Started fourth in 2003 and finished second.... Became the first open wheel driver to win three consecutive championships since Ted Horn accomplished the feat from 1946-1948...Leads the series point standings with an insurmountable advantage (354-285) over second place A.J. Allmendinger.
Bruno Junqueira, No. 2 Hole in the Wall Camps Ford-Cosworth/Lola/Bridgestone:
"I didn't push as much as I could have in the first two turns on my fastest lap so I know I can get more out of the car. I only got one fast lap on the second stint on the Bridgestone reds, that were really good. I caught up to Oriol and had to back off so I could build a gap. Then I went full speed again and he (Oriol) had made a mistake so I caught up to him again. I think I can improve my time tomorrow. I'm not far off the guys in front of me so if we can continue to improve the car I think we have a shot at it."
