Dan Clarke Jumps to Sixth, Nelson Philippe Takes Tenth Position in Final Qualifying in Mexico City
Dan Clarke: "I'm much happier with how today went, especially with how it ended. We went as hard as we could on the alternate red Bridgestone tires, because we haven't had the ideal car this weekend. But today I was able to get some real experience on the track, and put in some good laps. Over the course of the day, we've made a lot of changes to the car. It's incredible the amount of hard work that the team has put in, especially today. The red tires really helped improve the grip of the car. Some of the faster corners on the track are really bumpy, and the car can become difficult to control at times. It was important to me to put in a quick lap, so I just kept my foot nailed down and kept gritting my teeth the whole way. I'm enjoying this event so far, because I feel really motivated to push very hard...the track is fast and furious, and the fans are out in force and very excited. I feel like I'm giving the crowd their money's worth. During yesterday's visit to the Adulam orphanage, the kids gave us all of their prayers, so I feel really motivated, and I hope to put on a good show for everyone tomorrow."
Nelson Philippe: "It's been a difficult day and I'm losing quite a bit of time in the last two S-curves. I can't seem to carry any speed through that part of the track, because every time I do, I feel like I'm going to put the car into the wall. So, I'm not happy, but it's a long race tomorrow, but I know the team will work hard and we'll have something up our sleeves for the race. It's just unfortunate that qualifying ended the way it did."
