MIAMI (Feb. 14) – Max Papis, one of the rising stars of the CART FedEx Championship Series, will be the guest of Homestead-Miami Speedway on Thursday (Feb. 17) at the Miami International Boat Show at the Miami Beach Convention Center.

Papis will be signing autographs from 3-4 p.m. at the Homestead-Miami Speedway booth, which will be located outside the D Lobby on Convention Center Drive.

The Italian-born Miami resident established himself as the driver to beat for the March 24-26 Marlboro Grand Prix of Miami presented by Toyota when he ran the fastest laps in the recent Spring Training at Homestead-Miami Speedway. Driving the Miller Lite Ford-Reynard owned by racing legend Bobby Rahal, Papis toured the 1.5 mile oval in 209.907 mph to highlight pre-season testing for the CART FedEx Series teams.

Going fast has never been a problem for Papis. The former Formula One regular earned the nickname "Mad Max" when he electrified American sports car racing with a late-race charge to second place in the 1996 Rolex 24 at Daytona, the closest finish in the history of the event. Papis went on to score three victories, four poles and eight track records in the 1996 IMSA championship, and was racing in the CART circuit by the end of that year.

Papis joined Team Rahal in 1999, and scored 11 top-five finishes. He lost a heartbreaker at Michigan, running out of fuel on the final lap after dominating the race. Papis led CART in laps, miles and races completed, and trailed only champion Juan Montoya in laps led. For 2000, the popular driver is one of the pre-season favorites to win the championship.
