CHAMPCAR/CART: Marlboro Team Penske Vancouver race notes

"I had a good day today, and for me it was an exciting race -- perhaps a bit too exciting. It was rather dicey out there at times. I was struggling with the Marlboro car a bit at the beginning of the race but I was able to stay with the leaders.

"I had a good day today, and for me it was an exciting race -- perhaps a bit too exciting. It was rather dicey out there at times. I was struggling with the Marlboro car a bit at the beginning of the race but I was able to stay with the leaders. The guys did a great job on pit stops which helped me stay up front and put me in a position to win. On the restart (lap 80), I got by Roberto (Moreno) and thought 'this is good'. I knew Moreno was fast so I was pushing hard at the end to stay in front of him. I made a small mistake in turn four and touched the inside wall. I had to get off of the throttle and Roberto flew by me. I'm very happy that we took the lead in the Championship point standings, and I'm determined to win this thing (the Championship) again. There are still six races to go so we need to stay focused and get ready for Germany and England."

-- First in the CART FedEx Series Championship point standings with 115 points
-- Fifth top-three finish this season

"All in all it was a frustrating day for me. The first lap was really upsetting and a real mess. I went into the first corner side by side with Kenny (Brack), and I locked my front brakes and went wide. I think all of the cars went wide on cold tires. I tried to get out of his way, but all of the sudden he blocked me, and squeezed me to the inside. He pushed me back, we tangled and the steering wheel escaped from my hands. I caught it again, and as soon as I did, I tried to drive into the turn. Then he came like a maniac and drove into the middle of my car and I went straight into the tires. Then the car got stuck in reverse gear and the Safety Crew had to push me. When I got it loose, there was a big noise but it got going. By this time though I was off the lead lap.

"Later in the race, all of the sudden the car just shut off. I was able to continue and finish, but unfortunately we didn't score any points. That's just racing. It could have been much worse with respect to the championship standings - at least we are still in the game. Marlboro Team Penske needs to keep focused and move forward."
