Good Morning from sunny Long Beach for Race Day in Southern California! With temps in the low fifties and a brisk wind from the west it's not exactly bikini weather. But with the brilliant blue skies greeting the early arrivals to the track, it's much better than the refrigerator drizzle that plagued the series all day yesterday. First up on the Champ Car schedule today is the traditional 30-minute morning warm-up taking to the track at 9 a.m. followed by the Green Flag for the Toyota Grand Prix of Long Beach at 1 p.m.

GREEN FLAG waves at 9 a.m. to start the final practice session of the weekend.

BLACK FLAG is shown at 9:02 a.m. to #55 KANAAN for a Pit Road speed violation. KANAAN subsequently pits the car to comply with the Black Flag drive-thru penalty.

At 9:03 a.m., CART course observers report spray trailing from the rear of the car of #39 ANDRETTI while at speed on course. ANDRETTI subsequently pits the car.

At 9:03 a.m., #51 FERNANDEZ spins at Turn 8 and stalls the car. CART safety workers pull the car back to the corner station and get FERNANDEZ's engine re-fired. FERNANDEZ continues on course with no apparent damage to the car.

BLACK FLAG is shown at 9:04 a.m. to #27 FRANCHITTI for a Pit Road speed violation. FRANCHITTI subsequently pits the car to comply with the Black Flag drive-thru penalty.

RED FLAG waves at 9:06 a.m. after #12 MINASSIAN spins at Turn 12 and stalls in the middle of the track. CART safety workers get the car restarted and MINASSIAN continues to his Pit Box.

GREEN FLAG waves at 9:09 a.m. to resume the session.

At 9:10 a.m., 10 minutes into the session, the fastest driver is #51X FERNANDEZ, followed by #6 da MATTA and #18 DIXON.

At 9:15 a.m., halfway through the session, the fastest driver is now #8 BRACK with a lap of 98.238 mph (1:12.119), followed by #20 MORENO (97.871 mph; 1:12.389).

RED FLAG waves at 9:16 a.m. after #21 GARCIA Jr. stall on course. CART safety workers pull the car off course but are unsuccessful in getting the engine started. GARCIA Jr. exits the car to await the end of the session.

GREEN FLAG waves at 9:18 a.m. to resume the session.

At 9:20 a.m., 20 minutes into the session, the fastest driver is now #8 BRACK with a lap of 100.585 mph (1:10.436), followed by #27 FRANCHITTI (99.135 mph; 1:11.466) and #40X VASSER (98.540 mph; 1:11.898).

At 9:21 p.m., CART course observers report that #25 WILSON brushes the wall at Turn 11 with the right rear wheel. WILSON continues on course without apparent damage to the car.

BLACK FLAG is shown at 9:23 a.m. to #8 BRACK for a Pit Road speed violation. BRACK subsequently pits the car to comply with the Black Flag drive thru penalty.

RED FLAG waves at 9:24 a.m. after #51X FERNANDEZ spins exiting Turn 9, over corrects, and makes moderate contact against the inside wall leading to Turn 10 with the nose of the car. The driver is uninjured in the incident but the car sustains damage to the nose and right front wheel and snaps off the right front wing. CART safety workers quickly pull the car to safety to await the end of the session. FERNANDEZ will receive the standard eight-minute delay-of-session carryover penalty to be assessed in the Sunday morning warm-up at the next road/street course race, Detroit.

GREEN FLAG waves at 9:28 a.m. to resume the session.

CHECKERED FLAG waves at 9:30 a.m. to end the last practice session of the weekend with #11 FITTIPALDI now the fastest driver with a lap of 101.222 mph (1:09.993), followed by #3X CASTRONEVES (101.057 mph; 1:10.107) and #8 BRACK (100.585 mph; 1:10.436). The field has definitely tightened up as the top 13 drivers are separated by less than one second with the top 19 drivers separated by less than two seconds in lap times. The FedEx Championship Series drivers introduced 28 cars to the track in this morning's session with secondary cars utilized by #3X CASTRONEVES, #40X VASSER, #17X GUGELMIN, #25X WILSON, #16X JOUDAIN Jr., #51X FERNANDEZ, and #6 da MATTA.
