Pacificare driver Junqueira second fast in provisional qualifying for Toyota Grand Prix of Long Beach; Lilly driver Bourdais third.

BRUNO JUNQUEIRA, #1 PacifiCare Ford-Cosworth/Lola/Bridgestone:   "The PacifiCare car was pretty good this morning and we were fastest until the end of the session when Paul put in a faster lap.  We knew that if we were able to continue to improve the car we would have a shot at the pole.  We had pole after my run on the first set of tires but when we went back out on the second set I was in traffic then I had to back off.  On my last fast lap I came up on Jimmy and had to slow down.  I really believe I could have been on pole if I could have gotten a clear lap. We left a lot on the table today.  Hopefully we will have another shot at pole tomorrow if it doesn't rain."

· NOTES: Will be his third race here. He started 3rd in the 2002 race and ran the fastest race lap but contact ended his day in 17th place.  Started 28th in his rookie season and finished 9th.

SEBASTIEN BOURDAIS, #2 Newman/Haas Racing Ford-Cosworth/Lola/ Bridgestone:  "I am starting to get some reference (layout) of the track.  I'm pretty happy with the job the Lilly team did and with the job that I did too.  On my quick lap, I made a mistake going into the hairpin that cost me two-tenths of a second or we would have had the pole lap.  You really need to take your time and go step by step to learn the track or you will end up on the wall."

· NOTES: This will be his first Champ car race here and third overall. Won the pole position in the two previous events so far this season. The only driver to have won the first three pole positions of the season was Mario Andretti in 1987 - with NHR.  No rookie has even accomplished the feat.   He is currently ranked 14th in the point standings with five points.

· TEAM NOTES: NHR has earned THREE WINS, SEVEN PODIUM finishes and SEVEN POLES here.  (SEVEN PODIUM FINISHES - WINS by Ma. Andretti 1987, 1985, 1984; 2nd place finishes by da Matta 2001, Mansell 1994, Mi. Andretti 1989; 3rd place finish by Mansell 1993.)  (POLES by Mi. Andretti 1995, Mansell 1993, Mi. Andretti 1992, Mi. Andretti 1991, Ma. Andretti 1987, Ma. Andretti 1985, and Ma. Andretti 1984.)

ON TAP FOR TOMORROW: The morning practice session will take place from 10:00-11:15 AM PT which will be followed by final qualifying from 1:45-2:45 PM ET.  SPEED Channel will televise qualifying live.
