FRANCHITTI EIGHTH AND TRACY NINTH FASTEST IN PROVISIONAL QUALIFYING
LONG BEACH, Calif., - Team KOOL Green drivers Dario Franchitti of Pompano Beach, Fla., and Paul Tracy of Parker, Ariz., turned the eighth and ninth fastest laps respectively in the first of two days of qualifying at the Grand Prix of Long Beach. Bryan He rta holds the provisional pole with a lap-time of 50.945 seconds at 111.225 mph.
Franchitti completed his fast lap on his 10th and final tour of the circuit in 51.366 seconds at 110.314 mph. He is only 0.274 seconds behind the Herta and only 0.064 behind Scott Pruett in seventh. Tracy, meanwhile, is just 0.025 seconds behind his tea mmate at 51.391 seconds and 110.260 mph. He was fastest on his sixth of 15 laps.
Bobby Rahal stands second with a lap-time of 51.036 seconds at 111.027 mph, while Adrian Fernandez is third at 51.057 seconds and 110.981 mph.
Paul Tracy, #26 Team KOOL Green: "The car is pretty good, but I got balked on my last three timed laps. It was frustrating. Every time I'd get set up for a fast lap, someone would spin and I'd have to slow. Because of that I couldn't get the last set of tires up to temperature and I w as really sliding around."
Dario Franchitti, #27 Team KOOL Green: "We had a tough start to the day, so to be eighth quickest in this first day of qualifying is good. We have a general lack of grip on this track. To get the car to grip, you've got to do things to the car to make it handle that do not make it very comfo rtable to drive."
Naoki Hattori is Sixth Fastest in Indy Lights Qualifying
Team KOOL Green driver Naoki Hattori of Japan was sixth in the first day of Indy Lights qualifying. He turned a quick lap of 57.609 seconds at 98.360 mph. Didier Andre holds the provisional pole followed by Cristiano da Matta and Sergio Paese.
Naoki Hattori, #27 Team KOOL Green: "We tried to do some different things from this morning' s practice - just dampers and ride height. I've still got some understeer that we need to fix - especially with new tires - but it was a good session. I think tomorrow will be better." - 30 -
