Justin raring to go at Long Beach
After a busy off-season Justin is eagerly anticipating this weekend's opening race of the 2006 Champ Car World Series around the streets of Long Beach, California.
Justin's looking to pick up where he left off in Mexico City when he won the 2005 season finale in dominant fashion last November. Since then he's tasted sportscar success with RuSPORT team-mate A.J. Allmendinger in the Daytona 24 Hours. The pair shared second place with Michael Shank Racing regulars Oswaldo Negri and Mark Patterson back in January. He has also enjoyed some light-hearted, yet typically competitive karting in Denver against fellow Champ Car drivers while on promotional duties as part of Champ Car's recent "Turbo Tour".
As for the real thing, Justin is looking forward to an even more competitive season in this, his second year with RuSPORT. The team has being working hard on developing the car, and also in developing their relationship with commercial partner CDW who will sponsor Justin's #9 car throughout 2006.
Last week's open Champ Car test at the California Speedway in Fontana - where Justin topped the timesheets by nearly a quarter of a second - leaves driver and team optimistic that they can take the fight to reigning champions Newman-Haas and Sebastien Bourdais this year.
Reflecting on this weekend's event, Justin commented "Long Beach is a great race to start the year, and it's important to obtain a good result here to kick off the season the right way. Last year, in my first race with RuSPORT, I managed to finish 4th at Long Beach and I'm looking to improve on that. I think we've made progress over the winter, and I think we've got a lot of potential for this season."
