Under the usual sunny California skies and perfect Champ Car conditions, the Herdez duo of Mario Dominguez and newcomer Ryan Hunter-Reay got the season off to a good start today with both drivers qualifying in the top-five. The qualifying session included one red-flag with a five minute hold time, but it didn't effect the strategy of the Herdez crew. Practice and Qualifying continue tomorrow, when the grid for the 30th running of the Toyota Grand Prix of Long Beach.
Mario Dominguez, #55 Herdez/Lola/ Ford-Cosworth
Mario on Qualifying: "I am happy with our fourth place result today. I think it was a good start to the weekend. There is definitely more in the car as well. My car was good, but I know there is more in it. If we work hard tonight, we will have top-three car tomorrow. I tried the new Bridgestone tire and I am very, very happy with it. It is a much faster tire, faster under braking, faster in the corners; Bridgestone has done a very good job developing this tire. It is great to be back and have the season under way."
Ryan Hunter-Reay, #4 Herdez/Lola/Ford-Cosworth
Ryan on Qualifying: "Today was a solid start to the weekend. I am not completely satisfied with my qualifying run, it could have been better but it is great to have both cars in the top five. The new tire is definitely a plus. I am really happy with its results. As it happens in racing sometimes, I was held up by traffic. Too bad I couldn't use the push to pass, I am looking forward to it in the race for sure!"
