CHAMPCAR/CART: Long Beach: Friday qualifying quoteboard

Will Power #5 Aussie Vineyards Cosworth/DP01/Bridgestone

"On the first run, I was trying really hard to get a good balance in this car. I sat in the pits after that run and looked at the time. Sebastien, it was half a second. I thought, well, it's going to probably be too hard to beat him even on reds. So I went out on blacks for the second run. I got a clear run. I let Simon go because he was on red tires, and got a clear lap. Yeah, got it right at the end. The car was nice. I think maybe I was overdriving a little on the first run. And here we are on pole."

Sebastien Bourdais #1 McDonalds Cosworth/DP01/Bridgestone

"I think it was a good session for the McDonald's team. I think we really needed to get ourselves back together after the terrible weekend we had in Vegas. It worked out all right. It's just we kind of

I kind of keep on playing the mistakes I made in Vegas with that really bad weekend. Only got one lap due to that in the second run. It was just not enough. One lap is usually the first lap to kind of get up to speed; the second lap to get the lap time to a decent level. It was just not enough. Good job to Team Australia. I think they definitely got the mixture together. We're going to try and give them a run for their money. Definitely looked like we had the speed on the first run, so we'll try again harder tomorrow."

Simon Pagenaud #15 Aussie Vineyards Cosworth/DP01/Bridgestone

"Well, we did a very good lap with the black Bridgestone tires before. I did a 68.4. Then we put the red tires, tried to have a chance to do the pole again. Unfortunately, I only had two laps, and the tires didn't come as warm as I wanted. So I did a 68.2, which was good, but I think I had something left in the tire. But, you know, it's still very good to be here. I think we are doing a very good job with the team. Especially you can see my teammate on my left side, so it means that we have been doing a good job. As I said before, it's a team effort, and it looks like we are doing very well."

Alex Tagliani #8 LXN2 Cosworth/DP01/Bridgestone

"I am really happy with the #8 LXN2 car. The RSPORTS crew did a fantastic job getting it ready from Las Vegas to Long Beach. We have a better understanding of a lot of things, so that has brought us closer to the front runners. We had little issues on braking, but overall there were no major problems today. I am happy with how the car feels, and we just have to take little baby steps on fine tuning it as we try to make it better. I think that we will be even closer to tomorrow. We have two sets of Red (Option Tires) Bridgestone Potenzas for the final round of qualifying, so I think realistically we could have been in the top three today if we would have put those tires on, therefore we should be in good shape for tomorrow."

Tristan Gommendy #22 Pay By Touch-Megaspiera Cosworth/DP01/Bridgestone

"We had an electrical problem with the gearbox on the The Pay By Touch MegaSpirea PKV Racing car at the begging of the session, so we lost a lot of time during qualifying. I am pretty sure that we would have been three or four tenths quicker if we had one more lap. But, the car was good. We did a good job in morning practice and during the afternoon warm-up we were fourth. I think the level of the car is about 68.5 or 68.4, but that level is not mine for the moment. The main problem right now is the driver. I learned that I was not quick enough on new tires. Once the driver knows the track and knows the car we will do better because the car is good."

Graham Rahal #2 Medi | Zone Cosworth/DP01/Bridgestone

"The qualifying session was a lot better for the Medi | Zone team. We had a couple of problems with shifting in the morning practice and lost some time so it was good to have a mostly trouble free session. I just barely touched the wall on the back straight but I don't think I bent anything. I do know there is more time to get out of the car. I think we can still be closer to the front but eighth is better. I know the track so I am more comfortable right away."

Justin Wilson #9 CDW Cosworth/DP01/Bridgestone

"I am very disappointed. I felt that the #9 CDW car was quicker then our showing today. We were quick earlier in the qualifying session, and from our data it showed that we would have been in the top three on our second timed laps during provisional qualifying. But we just kept getting blocked and we were just not able to get in a good lap this afternoon to post a better first qualifying time. So, I am very pleased with the potential, but disappointed that we could not get a clear lap today. I think that we are off to a good start and should have a good day tomorrow."

Alex Figge #29 Imperial Bank Cosworth/DP01/Bridgestone

"I am pleased with the result, we had a top-ten there until the last lap which is good for our local sponsor, Imperial Capital Bank who are so supportive, they've got a suite just above my pit and they are really cheering us on which is awesome! We did a lot of work on the car this morning, which I think paid off for us this afternoon. We haven't run on our reds yet and too be honest, we are still learning how to maximize those."

"Speedy Dan" Clarke #4 Ticketmaster/Synapse Power/Th Australian Pink Floyd Show Cosworth/DP01/Bridgestone

"There is a lot of time left in both myself and the car, and today's qualification doesn't give a true indication of where we should stand on the charts. Every time I get in the car, I'm increasingly more comfortable, and I'm working to acclimate myself to the paddle-shift gearbox. I will work with my entire team this evening, and I have a positive outlook that we will make a substantial improvement tomorrow."

Ryan Dalziel #28 Pacific Coast Motorsports Cosworth/DP01/Bridgestone -- "I am a bit disappointed, we've got some work to do on the car for sure. We're also learning how to get the most out of the 15 laps, our strategy and my timing as well. It's great to be back in Long Beach and I am looking forward to get back out there tomorrow. Every time a session is over I am bummed out because these cars are so unbelievably fun to drive!"

Robert Doornbos #14 Muermans/Jumbo Supermarkten/Media Mall Cosworth/DP01/Bridgestone

"It's great to be here in Long Beach -- the facilities and the circuit seem really good. The car was a little less fun to drive today than in Las Vegas last week, as we seemed to be chasing set-up much of the time. We had a few small problems this morning that lost us some track time, and we then went the wrong way on set-up this afternoon, and didn't have enough time to sort the situation. In addition, the red flag didn't help us. Our hopes are now on tomorrow, which I think should see the track producing faster times anyway. It's all wide open yet as far as qualifying positions are concerned."

Neel Jani #21 Red Bull-Gulfstream

"This was a very disappointing qualifying session for the Red Bull Gulfstream PKV Racing Team. We had some issues with the car, which made things very difficult. However, there is still another practice and qualifying session tomorrow and I am confident that we can have a good day and move up the grid."

Matt Halliday #42 42 Below Cosworth/DP01/Bridgestone

"We had a difficult session because we had some down shifting problems and I spun and hit the wall. We were definitely heading in the right direction for qualifying this afternoon and our performance of today does not reflect our potential. We will work hard and see what we can do and I think tomorrow we will be ok."
