BRYAN HERTA -8- Shell Ford-Cosworth - Finished 3rd - "It seems like I was stuck in third all weekend. We started third and finished third. I am happy with the result and I enjoyed running here. I didn't have anything for (Juan) Montoya or Dario (Franchitti) at the end of the race. I have to give some credit to Ford, though, they made some great horsepower all weekend. But I have to say, this race was a heartbreaker for Tony (Kanaan).
AS SOMEONE WHO WON LAST YEAR AFTER BEING PLACED ON PROBATION, DO YOU THINK THERE IS SOMETHING TO BEING ON PROBATION AND WINNING A RACE? "What can you say. Obviously it might be just coincidence but let's put it this way, when I got put on probation last year my guys were pretty stoked."
IT SEEMS LIKE SOME OF THE DRIVERS OUT THERE WERE HAVING PROBLEMS GETTING OFF THE CORNERS, WERE YOU? "I think it was difficult for everybody. We had some good tires from Firestone and the Ford engine was good but in my particular case I had good straight line speed and good breaking but my car wouldn't get through the corners as quick as I needed it to. I think it was a struggle for everybody but we were not at a disadvantage."
WHAT DO YOU THINK CAN BE DONE TO MAKE THIS A MORE INTERESTING RACE? "I thought it was a pretty interesting race but I didn't see all of it. From my perspective, I thought it was pretty interesting."
DID YOU HAVE PROBLEMS WITH THE MARBLES OUT THERE? "Actually on the parade lap in the trucks there were spots on the track that they had all coned off and they were putting sealer on the track and I think I kind of looked over at Dario and he looked back at me and wondered what that was all about. It was okay on the racing line but if you got a little off line it was really balling up and tearing up. I think if you were to get our car out there obviously you were not coming back."
MAX PAPIS -7- Miller Lite Ford-Cosworth - Finished 9th - "We were struggling a bit with traction this weekend. We were a bit loose all day. The track never came to us. I couldn't attack the track the way I wanted. It's still a top ten and we are only getting better as a team. We will have good days and not as good days."
ADRIAN FERNANDEZ -40- Tecate/Quaker State Ford-Cosworth - Finished 4th - "This was a hard race. It was just a matter of keeping your nose clean. I was happy that everyone gave each other enough room. Everybody was pretty separated. That turn is just too tight. After that it was just a matter of pressure and keeping the pressure on. After that I passed Max Papis who held me up for a while and I also lost some time to Montoya. I was putting up good lap times and we pitted and I was fighting most of the day with (Bryan) Herta and Christian (Fittipaldi). The tires were working great for us today. We guessed a little wrong on our gearing which cost us."
P.J. JONES -20- Visteon Ford-Cosworth - Finished 12th - "We had a good run going . We didn't have a top three car but we should have been in at least the top ten. I ran into some problems on the track with Tarso Marques. He ran into me once and then when he was a lap down he tried to pass five cars going into turn one and I had to back off which cost us track position and time. Then later in the race I was trying to pass Greg Moore and I got a good run on him going into turn one and got into the marbles and got the car sideways and it cost me a lap. We had a decent car that we should have put in the top six or seven."
MICHAEL ANDRETTI -6- K Mart/Texaco/Havoline Ford-Cosworth - Finished 7th - "I thought we had the car a little better than it actually was. Actually, Christian went more the right way on the setup and it worked for him. Our setup was wearing the tires out too much. The Swift is a good car but we just need to get it a bit better on the setup."
CHRISTIAN FITTIPALDI -11- Big K Ford-Cosworth - Finished 5th - "I am happy with our finish but I think we still need to do a little more homework on our setup on street courses and road courses. We really expected to be a lot stronger here. I would say our qualifying effort was a disappointment because if we had started in the top six I am sure we could have finished in the top three again, but, that was not the case. We just need to continue to get our act together otherwise we are going to start to fade away at the end of the year. But, I have a lot of confidence in the team and I think we can do it."
MICHEL JOURDAIN, JR. -19- Herdez/Viva Mexico Ford-Cosworth - Finished 18th - "During our first pit stop it seemed like we had a short in the battery, but we managed to fix the problem. Then we had to struggle with gearbox and engine problems but we managed to regain some positions and the chance to score some points. But, at the end we ran out of fuel which cost us any chance of a point."
