Adrián Fernández, Owner/Driver -- #51 Tecate/Quaker State/Telmex Honda/Lola/Bridgestone:
"We had some electrical problems this morning and really didn't have the time to make changes to the car. Right now the car is not very forgiving. We just didn't have the time we needed this morning. In qualifying, 15 laps is not much time to work on the setup. We have another session tomorrow to hopefully improve our position."

Shinji Nakano, #52 Alpine/Mitsuba Honda/Lola/Bridgestone:
"At the beginning of the session, the car felt better than this morning. We made a change and the balance of the car changed a lot. I had a big understeer and couldn't improve the time. We know what we need to do for tomorrow so we should be okay."
FAST FACTS: Will be making his second Champ Car start at Long Beach-- missed the 2000 Long Beach race due to injuries sustained in a testing accident at Milwaukee-- scored the team's first championship point at Long Beach in 2001, finishing 12th after starting 23rd-- will be making his 39th career Champ Car start-- is in his third season of Champ Car competition, and second year with Fernandez Racing-- currently sits 15th in the championship-- has 11 career street course starts to his credit, posting top finishes at Toronto (ninth in 2001) and Houston (eighth in 2000).
Tom Anderson, Co-Owner/Managing Director:
"We made considerable improvement from practice this morning to the qualifying session this afternoon, reducing our time difference to the leader by half. I believe with the information we have learned today, we will make another considerable jump in tomorrow morning's practice and be able to move up the grid with Saturday's times. The team has a lot of work to do tonight and I am confident in the direction."
