Drive-Thru Crew News Toyota Grand Prix of Long Beach Long Beach, California April 16-18, 1999

Circuit: 1.85-mile temporary street course Race: Laps - tba Broadcast: ABC Live 4:00 pm - 6:00 pm EST

Friday Qualifying

1. Dario Franchitti 61.805 = 106.444 mph 2. Juan Montoya 61.958 = 105.985 mph 3. Bryan Herta 62.189 = 105.588 mph 4. Tony Kanaan 62.332 = 105.348 mph 5. Max Papis 62.363 = 105.293 mph

Tony Kanaan, #44 McDonald's Honda-Reynard:

"The car was pretty good. I think we have one more step to go in the setup, so I think we are in the zone. Hopefully tomorrow we can improve even more. I haven't qualified this well on a street course before, so I am happy. And, I won two more watches for my collection. I bet my engineers that I could do better than a 62.5 (seconds) and I did. They lost their wristwatches.

"Long Beach has been pretty good to me the last three years. I really like the track."

Note: Tony finished fifth at Long Beach last year in Champ Car competition, and second and fifth in Indy Lights competition in 1996 and 1997.
