SPEEDY DAN ROCKS HIS CHAMP CAR DEBUT AT THE BEACH WITH THE THIRD FASTEST RACE LAP, NELSON'S STRONG RUN ENDS EARLY WITH A BROKEN GEARBOX.
NELSON PHILIPPE- #4 CTE Racing-HVM/Ford-Cosworth/Lola
Nelson on the race: "We learned a lot today and over the course of the weekend. I made a few mistakes and damaged the gearbox on my pit stop. It's very unfortunate because we were running very good. I started in 15th and got up to seventh in the first 40 laps of the race. I was able to keep up with the cars in front. The car was running good. My day ended in the back of a cop car with Jimmy Vasser, which is far from what I expected. When I got out of my car, he was sitting at the turn three lemonade stand and invited me over to join him in drinks. We then persuaded one of Long Beach's finest policemen to give us a ride back to the paddock. We were a little surprised when he had us in the back of the police car. But we appreciated the ride. None the less we will take what we learned to Houston to have a good race."
DAN CLARKE - #14 CTE Racing-HVM/Ford-Cosworth/Lola
*Dan set the third fastest lap of the race. This was only his second race on a street circuit.
Dan on his first Champ Car race: "I am quite happy because the team did a really good job. We managed to create balance in the car that made it a pleasure to drive. We made a few mistakes, which cost us more time than we could afford. However, we managed to get some points. This was my first Champ Car race and has acquired me much experience this weekend alone. I am looking forward to using the experience for a good race in Houston, and I am extremely happy to be a part of this series."
Keith Wiggins, Co-owner-Managing Dir.: "I am disappointed for Nelson as he could have had a great finish. He was running in a strong seventh. I am extremely impressed with Dan's race pace. He now has his first Champ Car race under his belt. He has a lot of potential to work with. We are proud that he finished the race as he was having migraines since morning warm up. It was a good effort to finish. I am thrilled to see how we compete in Houston."
