A TOP SIX FINISH FOR MI-JACK CONQUEST RACING IN LONG BEACH
Long Beach, California, Sunday, April 9, 2006 - It was an up and down day for the Mi-Jack Conquest Racing Team at the Toyota Grand Prix of Long Beach today. Canadian Andrew Ranger was the most improved driver starting 16th and finishing sixth in his Tide/Mi-Jack car while rookie Charles Zwolsman's day came to an end with a broken left rear suspension after clipping the wall on lap 66.
The race started well for both drivers picking up a few spots on the first lap after an incident involving six drivers took out four of the front runners. Ranger gained some more positions with an excellent race strategy and good pit stops.
"I'm really happy. The car wasn't perfect but I was able to keep the car on course and fight with some of the drivers out there," said Ranger. "It wasn't easy, but we had some excellent pit stops, the Mi-Jack Conquest team did a great job and with the way the weekend started finishing sixth is great."
It was a demanding day for Zwolsman who had hoped for better results for his first outing with the Conquest Racing Team. The Dutchman was running eighth when he clipped the wall and damaged the left rear suspension on his Ford-Lola. Driving with injured wrists, he would have liked to end his first race for the Conquest Racing Team differently.
"I'm disappointed with the way the race finished for me, but I was hurting all weekend with my wrists and then I hurt my back at the beginning of the race so it made it pretty difficult physically for me. I was fighting for seventh place but near the end I hit the wall and that put an end to my race."
Team manager, Chris Mower, looked at today's results optimistically. "Considering how things went in practice and qualifying, it is an excellent result for Andrew, in particular. It's a shame for Charles and the physical problems he had physically over the weekend. He had something in his back go around lap three probably caused by the way he's having to support himself with his two injured wrists. Overall both drivers and the team did an excellent job, we know we were not the quickest cars out there but that is what we will work on in Portland this week."
With nearly a month before the next race in Houston, the Mi-Jack Conquest Racing team will be hard at work starting this week with a two-day test in Portland.
