CART Online (April 9, 1998) -- Response to Sunday's uninterrupted broadcast of the final 10 minutes of the Toyota Grand Prix of Long Beach was immediate and positive among viewers of the race.

Thanks to event sponsor Toyota's agreement to forego its advertising as the race concluded, the uninterrupted telecast of the closing laps allowed viewers to witness Alex Zanardi's (Target Reynard Honda) dogged pursuit of Bryan Herta (Shell Reynard Ford), leading to his pass for the lead on the second-to-last lap and ultimately the victory.

"We've been hoping to do something like this for a number of years," said Andrew Craig, CART Chairman and CEO, "and our thanks goes out to Toyota for helping to make it possible. The positive response of our viewers, both via phone call and through CART Online, has been extremely gratifying, and it encourages us to explore the possibilities of presenting finishes without commercial interruption in future events."
