Bourdais Earns First Bridgestone Pole Award of 2006

Sebastien Bourdais of Newman/Haas Racing earned the 19th pole of his three-year career to pick up the first Bridgestone Pole Award of the 2006 season during qualifying today for Sunday's Toyota Grand Prix of Long Beach.

"The Bridgestones really got the job done," said Bourdais. "They delivered all the way through the run, they're coming up to speed quicker and they're giving you more grip--it's a better tire all the way around. We kind of expected that. These tires are really, really effective at this race track, and I could not be any happier than we are with the alternate tires."

Bourdais earns $5,000 from Bridgestone for his pole win today. Also as part of the Bridgestone Pole Award monetary award, Paul Newman's Hole in the Wall Camp will receive $2,500.

The driver winning the most Bridgestone Pole Awards in the 2006 season will be awarded a $20,000 check and an award for $7,500 will be presented to his chief mechanic.

Quote from Al Speyer, Executive Director, Bridgestone Motorsport: "We debuted the alternate tire at Long Beach two years ago and our race tire development team has worked really hard since then to continue to improve on the concept. I think we've really seen those efforts pay off here today, with Sebastien running nearly a second faster on a set of alternates during qualifying today. Congratulations to him and to the entire Newman/Haas team for another incredible performance today. It was an impressive qualifying session and we're looking forward to an exciting race tomorrow."

Qualifying session temperatures ranged from 105 to 111 degrees track and from 65 to 67 degrees ambient (F).

Qualifying session temperatures ranged from 40.6 to 43.9 degrees track and from 18.3 to 19.4 degrees ambient (C).
