Bridgestone Tire Performance Summary: Bridgestone engineers brought the softest in the line of street-course primary and alternate tires to Long Beach, including an alternate with an experimental new compound. Both specifications performed well, with the tires' incredible durability evidenced by most drivers setting their fastest laps near the end of each stint.
From Sebastien Bourdais, #1 McDonald's Cosworth/Panoz/Bridgestone: "The Bridgestone tires held really, really well; they were super consistent from the beginning of the stint to the end. Alternates or standards, the car was really well balanced and I was very happy with everything."
From Oriol Servia, #3 Indeck/Forsythe Cosworth/Panoz/Bridgestone: "The Bridgestone tires were good. I started on reds and they were good, but I wanted to go to blacks because I felt they were going to last longer. I knew that I was going to have a couple long stints where I was going to have to push from the beginning to the end and they were very consistent. The car was consistent and I was doing my best laps when the fuel was going down, so the tires were giving a very good performance."
From Al Speyer, Executive Director, Bridgestone Motorsport: "It was a very productive day for Bridgestone Motorsport. We debuted a brand new tread compound on the alternate red-sidewall tires and we're quite pleased with the performance. In fact, Simon Pagenaud used a set of those tires to set the fastest lap of the race near the end. We also extend our congratulations to Sebastien Bourdais and the entire Newman/Haas/Lanigan Racing team. They were clearly the class of the field today."
