Bourdais Rides Bridgestone Tires to Victory in 2006 Opener

Bridgestone Pole Award winner Sebastien Bourdais earned his 17th Champ Car victory, taking the checkered flag at today's Toyota Grand Prix of Long Beach. Bourdais started the race on a set of alternate tires--a softer compound which provides more grip and is slightly faster than the standard tire--and quickly pulled away from the competition for an impressive win in the 2006 season-opening event.

* Bridgestone Tire Performance Summary: Bourdais won the race on a proven Bridgestone Potenza street-course specification--the softest standard tire compound and construction that Bridgestone uses in the series. The same specification was used at Long Beach in 2004 and 2005 and performed well throughout this weekend.

* From race winner Sebastien Bourdais, #1 McDonald's Ford-Cosworth/Lola/Bridgestone, Newman/Haas Racing: ""I had a great race with my Bridgestone tires. They were great all day with really consistent performance. They gave me all I could ask for.""

* From Al Speyer, Executive Director, Bridgestone Motorsport: "Congratulations to Newman/Haas Racing and Sebastien, as they appeared to really have things under control today. The fact that Sebastien ran two sets of the grippier alternate tires to build up a great lead demonstrates that our alternate tire program is headed in the right direction. It was great to see all the enthusiastic fans here and we're looking forward to coming back in 2007 for Bridgestone Firestone's 17th year in Long Beach."

Race temperatures ranged from 99 to 108 degrees track and from 65 to 71 degrees ambient (F).

Race temperatures ranged from 37.2 to 42.2 degrees track and from 18.3 to 21.7 degrees ambient (C).
