Vasser to Start 14th at Toyota Grand Prix of Long Beach.
It was a tough day for Jimmy Vasser and the #12 crew. After provisional qualifying yesterday, Vasser thought he would have a much better result this afternoon, but it wasn't to be. The crew a few changes to the car overnight, which disturbed the cars handling dramatically, he finished the first practice session in 15th position. A broken gasket caused the team to miss the qualifying warm-up, but efficient teamwork paid off and the car was in the pit-lane in time for the full qualifying session. Vasser entered the track at its optimum condition, with 25 minutes remaining. He was up to fourth on his fourth lap and came back in for fresh rubber. With 10 minutes and 20 seconds remaining, Vasser made his final attempt; unfortunately, traffic destroyed his chances at a top-ten qualifying effort.

Vasser on qualifying: "We moved the wing back to improve our down force and it didn't work for us. It was a big change, we tried to improve it the best we could in the pit lane, but it just wasn't enough. We are going to have to fight for it tomorrow, but we are tough and we can do it. We might have to play with the strategy a bit, but an off strategy won the race last year, I remember that well, so maybe we'll go for something different tomorrow."
Stefan Johansson, Team Owner: "Ryan did a great job under the circumstances out there today, traffic was a big issue. Jimmy was a bit un-lucky with the slightly wrong set-up, but he is a street fighter and will make the best of it, no doubt. We need to remain focused and bring both cars home at the end of the race."
