A.J. Allmendinger, #10
Qualified 8th overall: 1:09.90 / 101.349-mph.
Allmendinger's final qualifying session today was a lesson in strategy as damp track conditions and red flags left the rookie with a handful of laps. A.J.'s fastest time today was 1:11.351, giving him the 5th quickest time for today but unable to better his time from Friday's qualifying. A.J. will start his debut Champ Car race 8th on the grid.
"It was a tough session. I guess they're throwing everything at me at once so I can get to learn it all faster. Even though I only got about four laps in on the session, I think we made progress. I would have really liked to have had another dry session, but we didn't get one. I feel pretty comfortable in the car and I think we've got a good race car, so I'm looking forward to tomorrow. Then it will just be about me not making any mistakes. I'm very pleased going into the race."
David Brown, Senior Race Engineer
"Well it was very busy session; I'll say that, with all of the red flags. It looks like from the data we should have been about second quickest for today, so we're a bit disappointed. But I do think we have a good race car for tomorrow, so we'll see."
Jeremy Dale, Team President
"Overall it was a pretty disjointed session. We didn't want to go out early as the track was still drying, so the lap time just wasn't going to be there. Then there were a bunch of red flags. This was definitely a good exercise in managing a session correctly and building upon A.J.'s learning process. So we'll take it, move forward and get ready for Sunday."
