Team Kool Green tries to make it two in a row as Champ Cars move to Mid-Ohio.
LEXINGTON, Ohio - Team KOOL Green driver Dario Franchitti will attempt to make it two wins in a row as the CART FedEx Championship Series moves to the Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course in Lexington, Ohio, this weekend. Franchitti, who earned his first Champ Car victory of the season two weeks ago in Vancouver, is looking for his first win on the 2.258-mile road course. His Team KOOL Green teammate Paul Tracy, who finished second in Vancouver, will be one of Franchitti's toughest opponents, as Tracy is also eager to earn his first win at the track. Tracy has finished second four times at Mid-Ohio (see TKG Notebook below).
PAUL TRACY, #26 TEAM KOOL GREEN HONDA-LOLA-BRIDGESTONE:
(Started 8th / Finished 4th at Mid-Ohio in 2001; currently 6th in the standings with 68 points)
"A track like Mid-Ohio is always a challenge because it throws so many things at you. There are fast turns, slow turns and elevation changes that all come into play when we're trying to find the right balance in the car. We are coming off a good weekend in Vancouver where Team KOOL Green was quick in every session and hopefully we can be up front again. I'm very happy with the way the guys on the #26 KOOL car pulled together for us at Vancouver and I know that we're all feeling pretty good going into Mid-Ohio. We're hoping to repeat the performance and I know I'm going there this weekend to win the race."
DARIO FRANCHITTI, #27 TEAM KOOL GREEN HONDA-LOLA-BRIDGESTONE
(Started 5th/ Finished 16th at Mid-Ohio at 2001; currently 2nd in the standings with 84 points)
"I love coming to Mid-Ohio. It is a tough track to race at but it suits my style of driving and I've always qualified well there. I haven't been able to get the finish I want so far at this track, but I feel that this year I've probably got one of the best chances I've ever had to get to victory lane. At Mid-Ohio you're constantly changing direction, the track is up and down and it is a tough place. The win in Vancouver really boosted everyone's spirits. Team KOOL Green is looking to have a great run in Mid-Ohio to get this stretch of four races in a row going on a strong note."
BARRY GREEN - Team Owner
"After the strong performance we had at Vancouver two weeks ago Team KOOL Green is extremely motivated to get back on the podium again at Mid-Ohio. It's stretch time for us and we've got to do everything we can at this point to earn as many championship points as possible from here on in. Dario's win at Vancouver and Paul's strong second place showing have been a tremendous boost for us in terms of remaining firmly in the championship race. It's certainly far from over and if we continue on with the type of teamwork we pulled off at Vancouver, then Team KOOL Green is going to be a serious contender for the CART title in 2002."
Team KOOL Green is riding high following their 1-2 finish at Vancouver's Molson Indy two weeks ago. With drivers Dario Franchitti and Paul Tracy currently second and sixth in the CART Championship, the duo is anxious for a repeat performance. If you checked with Tracy however, he'd be sure to tell you he expects a reverse result! Tracy has played "bridesmaid" four times at Mid-Ohio (finished second in 1992, 1994, 1995 and 1999) and is looking to capture his first win in the Buckeye State.
Mid-Ohio marks the eighth race this season that Team KOOL Green rolls out its Lola chassis for Franchitti. The Scot is looking forward to driving his #27 car on the 2.258-mile road course once again. The veteran TKG member first tested his new KOOL blue car at the Lexington course in May and was pleased with the way the car performed on the track.
Got a scanner this weekend? If you do, tune in to Paul's conversations with TKG consultant John Anderson for some interesting twists of language. The Australian native uses such terms as "honkus eggwhitus" to identify drivers who hold Tracy up, and can be heard calling PT a "gnat stick" when the Canadian driver gets on his nerves. If you hear "sluggo, slug or slick" it's Ando's way of telling Paul he's doing great.
