Mechanical difficulties resulted in a short day for the Walker Racing crew. Corona driver Rodolfo Lavin experienced a gearbox problem that saw him pull his #5 entry into pit lane on Lap 10. Teammate Darren Manning parked his #15 RAC Walker Racing Champ Car on Lap 12 due to fluctuating oil pressures.

"We're not sure what happened with the gearbox. Telemetry showed that we lost pressure and then the temperature went up in the gearbox, so the guys are going to take a look at it. The Corona car was handling well. The changes we'd made for the race from warm up had improved the car and we were looking for a good race. Now, we'll just have to get focused on Portland where we had a good test there in April."

"The oil pressure started fluctuating so we knew we had a problem and brought it in. It started to sound really loud in the cockpit and I felt a vibration in the rear. I thought the exhaust was going. The start of the race was a bit of disappointment for us as well. Bourdais and I had a good run going, but he slowed up and I ended up getting pushed back to ninth. It's really disappointing to have such an early end to the race. We'd worked so hard all weekend to get the #15 RAC Walker Racing car up to seventh on the grid."
