History: Target/Chip Ganassi Racing has won the last two Grand Prix of Monterey titles. Jimmy Vasser took the checkered flag at last year's race, while teammate Alex Zanardi finished third and clinched the team's second consecutive PPG Cup. In 1996, Zanardi won from the pole and Vasser wrapped up the PPG Cup title with a fourth-place finish. Zanardi's victory two years ago was punctuated by an incredible pass of Bryan Herta in the fabled corkscrew on the final lap.
