CHAMPCAR/CART: Laguna Seca Tasman Friday Report

Tony Kanaan, ...

Tony Kanaan, #21 LCI Reynard-Honda - Qualified 14th:

"We made a couple of improvements but it still wasn't enough. I still have a lot of understeer and that is a big issue at this track. If you have understeer, you can't go fast. We are going to try to fix that for tomorrow. "I think today is a good start. We did not test here with everybody, so I'm pretty pleased. We were quick this morning (fourth), and top ten is the issue. That's what we are going to try to do. We always race better than we qualify, and we have to improve our qualifying car a little bit because we have a very good race car. Hopefully we can move up in the top six tomorrow."

Airton Dare, #1 Banestado/LCI Lola - Qualified 16th:

"We couldn't get the balance. The car had three different reactions in the same corner. We need to find something for tomorrow. We improved the car over the bumps, but the biggest problem now is the balance."

Cristiano da Matta, #2 Medley/LCI Lola - Qualified 2nd:

"The car feels pretty good. I just couldn't get a good lap in on my new tires. Although we were able to wrap up the championship last weekend, I still want to go out and win this race -- especially now that I don't have to think about the championship. I don't have to think about points. I can be more aggressive and take more risks than I would if the championship was on the line. It will be fun. I don't feel the pressure. I think it will actually make me go quicker here than I would be if the championship wasn't finished."
