Tagliani not satisfied with 13th in day one of qualifying at the Grand Prix of Monterey

Monterey, Calif. June 13, 2003 - Alex Tagliani is very familiar with the Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca and has been racing the California circuit for eight years (Four with the Toyota Atlantics series). The Grand Prix of Monterey is one of Tagliani's favorite races that he usually looks forward to, but not even this history and nostalgia for the track could pacify the feisty Rocketsports driver today. "The conditions here at Laguna Seca are great and this should be a good weekend. Right now we are not satisfied with the speed that we're getting from the # 33 Johnson Controls Lola. We tested here at Laguna in early January and had better results than today so we're going to sit down and reconfigure the car," said Tagliani.

With a lap time of 1:11.593 seconds, Tagliani finished 13th in the first qualifying session for Sunday's race. In order to better his results during Saturday's session Tagliani will set to work with his engineers to change the set up of the Lola. "We need to go back, look at the data we have and start with the basics again. We'll get it right for tomorrow and the race, but it's going to be a long afternoon," said the determined Tagliani.
