Mcdonald's Driver Bourdais Second Fast in Provisional Qualifying for the Bridgestone GP of Laguna Seca; Pacificare Driver Junqueira Fifth

Sebastien Bourdais, No. 2 McDonald's Ford-Cosworth/Lola/Bridgestone: "I'm pretty happy to have the McDonald's car second fastest today. Last year was a pretty difficult weekend for us here. The McDonald's car suits me more this year. We were trying to make the car good on entry and exit which was impossible so this year we are working more toward a compromise. We ran the regular Bridgestone tires in qualifying so we have two sets of the alternate tires for tomorrow. The track is tough on tires because of the surface. The alternate tires will help us pick up some time like they have at other races this season so we can count on that tomorrow. All we need is to finish in the top-five the rest of the season to win the championship. It is a shame what happened in Montreal. We were having a good race, we had the fastest car and set the fastest lap and were looking like we were going to win. It's a shame he (Allmendinger) made the mistake because maybe we would have wrapped up the championship after (Las) Vegas. We're just going to keep working hard and try to get top-five finishes in the last four races."

* FAST FACTS: Will be his second race here...Started fourth in 2003 and was in third place when his pop-off valve broke at the end of the race and he finished 17th...Has won five races and six poles in 10 events...Set a Champ Car record as the first driver to start in the top three in the first 10 events to begin a season...Leads the point standings with 258.

Bruno Junqueira, No. 6 PacifiCare Ford-Cosworth/Lola/Bridgestone: "The balance of the car was not really very good. Traffic was a problem as well. On the third lap of each run the car had too much understeer. On the fourth and fifth laps, which are supposed to be the best ones, the car was losing grip; especially on the second set of tires when I had to slow down to try to build a gap from the traffic. We didn't run the softer alternate tires which will gain us a little time. We saved them for tomorrow instead. The PacifiCare car was really good here last year. We're going to continue to work hard to improve the car and try to fight for pole."

* FAST FACTS: Will be his fourth race here... Started and finished second in 2003. Started third and finished fourth in 2002. Started 12th and finished seventh in 2001...Finished in the top-four seven times in 10 races, including one win (Montreal) and four second-place finishes. Set the fastest race lap three times...Is second in the point standings with 224.
