Saturday Qualifying: Tony Kanaan, ...
Tony Kanaan, #21 LCI Reynard-Honda -- Qualified 14th:
"One more lap -- I think it is the same for everybody as well, just one more lap. We had a lot of understeer in the beginning but we fixed that problem. I only got in one lap on my second set of tires. I'm happy. Fourteenth is not that bad. I wish I could be in the top 10, but we are not that far away. We started 12th before and finished fourth, so we'll see. This is my favorite track and there are a lot of good places to pass. It's going to be a really tight race and pit stop strategy is going to be important."
Airton Dare, #1 Banestado/LCI Lola - Qualified 19th:
"We've been struggling to find a good setup. When you make a change to help the front, the rear goes bad. When you make a change to the rear, the front goes bad. The car is very difficult to drive. We don't have the balance to go out and do a quick lap. It was almost impossible to put one lap together. The car has two different reactions in the same corner -- in Turn Four, one lap I would have oversteer and the next lap I would have understeer."
Cristiano da Matta, #2 Medley/LCI Lola - Qualified 8th:
"I didn't do a very good job in the very first session today. I crashed the car and the guys did a perfect job to put the car together for qualifying. They did an engine change and an engine mount change in less than two hours. I was able to get the last 15 minutes of qualifying. The time was so short that we weren't able to check everything on the car like the corner weight, ride height and little details like those. We were still able to make it to the track and I am just so proud of all these guys. I give thanks to be with such a good team that puts so much effort into the business. Of course, I am not very glad to be starting eighth. I knew I could have placed better if I had the car I had in the morning."
