CHAMPCAR/CART: Laguna Seca: American Spirit Team Friday report

JIMMY VASSER #12 American Spirit/Ford-Reynard/Cosworth

"Ryan spun in front of me, I was coming out of the pits on new tires I knew there were a few guys behind me on their fliers so I pulled down low into turn two and the engine just stalled on me. This is the third time I had the stall so we are going to have to look into that. I can't believe that happened, next time I might not be so courteous because it bit me. Also on my first set of tires the pressures never came up, the second set was perfect, I am happy with the car, I think we have a real good baseline to work with."

RYAN HUNTER-REAY #31 American Spirit/Ford-Reynard/Cosworth

"It was a rough session. We are playing catch up in the first session this morning, I had a problem with the brake pads then after they changed them, we had a crack in the fuel pump so I ended up missing the entire second session which was really unfortunate. This afternoon I was still having some problems with the rears locking up because of the brake pad issue, I locked them up and spun causing a red flag as a result, and I lost my best time. I just need to re-group and get a better result tomorrow."

Graham Taylor Team Manager: "Ryan had a very difficult day; it started with the engine problem this morning. You need all of the time you can get on a track like this to get it right, so he was forced to play catch up in qualifying and make up for the lost time. He should have a better day tomorrow. Jimmy is happy with his car but a definitely disappointed with the result. His second run would have been very good but the traffic caught him up a bit. We feel like we have a good baseline for tomorrow."
