CHAMPCAR/CART: Laguna Seca: American Spirit Saturday qualifying report

JIMMY VASSER #12 American Spirit/Ford-Reynard/Cosworth

Jimmy on qualifying: "We had higher expectations, but we are happy to start in the top ten. The car is the best it has been not only this weekend but all year. We are definitely nibbeling away at it, especially as a race car, I think I have a good car for tomorrow. It is just awesome to run here in front of my family and friends; I am looking forward to a good day tomorrow."

RYAN HUNTER-REAY #31 American Spirit/Ford-Reynard/Cosworth

Ryan on qualifying: "We were going in the right direction this morning, the car definitely felt better. We made some changes to the car this afternoon in final qualifying that gave us the opposite result of what we were looking for. We have a long race ahead of us tomorrow, I am hoping for a clean start, a good race and to earn some points at the end."

Graham Taylor Team Manager: "We are making steady progress. Jimmy is pleased with his car although we are disappointed no to be the quickest Reynard, we are very pleased to be starting in the top ten. We did a race analysis this morning and Jimmy's car was consistent on fresh tires as well as later in the stint. I think we have learned a lot with the changes we made to Ryan's car. Both cars ran flawlessly all day."
