Hanoverville Roadhouse - 5001 Hanoverville Road, Bethlehem, PA 18017 * 610-837-1122. Just minutes from the track. Has everything. A longtime favorite with some of the race teams. Reservations recommended for lunch and dinner. The main structure of the Road House was built around 1825. It was a typical old colonial-style farmhouse. The soft rolling hills, fertile soil, and fifty inches of annual rainfall made this area perfect for farming corn, potatoes, wheat, and other crops. In 1837 the building was converted to a hotel, general store and post office, with a stagecoach stop at the northeast corner. The place remained the same through the Civil War and into the turn of the century. Even though the business changed hands, the bar always remained open. By the 1930's, the Road House was used as a restaurant, bar, and hunting lodge. In 1987, the present owners purchased this historic establishment. Major renovations and changes in design and menu have made the Hanoverville Road House the place for you to relax and enjoy fine or casual dining.

Appennino Ristorante - 3079 Willow St., Allentown, Phone: 610-799-2727 About 25 minutes from the track- well worth the drive..Upscale Italian restaurant with a great reputation. (Northern Italian Menu) Hours: 5-10 p.m. Tues.-Sat. for dinner. Closed Sunday and Monday, except for private parties. Restored hotel (1800s); imported italian lamps, chandeliers and tapestry on chairs. The pot got sweeter as retirement approached, so Yolanda Salezze and her daughter Patrice decided the time was right to sell Appennino Ristorante. The 16-year-old South Whitehall establishment recently was bought by Hody Jenkins, owner of the Spice of Life Restaurant in Salisbury Township. Terms were not disclosed, but negotiations had been escalating for years. The 27 employees and regular hours will stay, according to both Jenkins and Patrice Salezze. There are no plans to close, not even for a transition, Salezze said, and there are no plans to change the menu. "People won't even notice," Salezze said. Appennino was born from Yolanda Salezze's love of cooking and from her husband's renovating skills. Jenkins, the new owner, and his wife, Anna, hope to continue the tradition of fine dining the Salezze family has established. "It's a perfect place, and our goal is to maintain it," Jenkins said.

Bethlehem Brew Works - New pub with excellent food that opened 2 years ago. Establishment makes their own beer- very popular with 20's and 30's crowd. 15 minutes away in Bethlehem. 610-882-1300. In the Lehigh Valley, three companies brew beer at on-site locations: Weyerbacher Brewing Co. Inc., Easton; Old Lehigh Brewing Co., Allentown, and the newest, Bethlehem Brew Works (formerly the Bethlehem Beer Works), Bethlehem. This marks an important next step for the region's brewers. Most of the early examples of Lehigh Valley microbeers were brewed at other locations on a contract basis. Weyerbacher and the Brew Works both also operate brew pubs, where their beers are featured. The brewers at Brew Works have done about 30 complete batches of beer since the pub opened, and they are refining the beers all the time. Like most true white beers, this is an unfiltered beverage, which means there is a small amount of yeast in the beer. This may take a bit of getting used to, especially for people accustomed to clear and perfectly filtered brews. The trick is to pour all of the white beer out of the bottle and then allow the bottle to sit for a minute or so. Turn the bottle in a small circle and pour the remainder -- you'll be surprised at how much actually remains -- into your glass. This should add some additional taste elements to the beer and give it a slightly cloudy appearance, which is quite normal and desirable.
