CART Kids Program To Be Launched At Molson Indy
(July 14, 1998) -- Championship Auto Racing Teams, Inc., in association with a variety of sponsors and teams involved in the FedEx Championship Series, announces CART Kids, a new program designed to give children from local youth organizations the opportunity to experience the excitement of Champ Car racing firsthand.
The program begins Friday at the Molson Indy in Toronto, Ontario, Canada, where 50 children from Big Brothers of Metro Toronto will be entertained. CART Kids is being undertaken with assistance from PPG, MCI, Toyota, Honda, Target and iWerks Entertainment.
As part of the CART Kids program, the youths will be given a VIP tour, including close-up looks at a Champ Car, the PPG Pace Cars, and a team transporter. Afterward, they will be entertained at the CART hospitality suite, where they will have lunch with a FedEx Championship Series driver and other CART personalities. CART will also provide gift bags filled with various items donated by sponsors, as well as 50 grandstand seats where the youths will be able to view Friday afternoon's on-track action.
"The CART Kids program allows us to reach out to an audience which is extremely important to our continued growth," said Jeff Gooding, CART promotions director. "Beyond that, it offers the added benefit of letting us show our gratitude for the good work done by local youth organizations in our race markets."
Following its debut at Toronto, the CART Kids program will continue each Friday at five of the remaining seven North American dates on this year's FedEx Championship Series schedule, including the U.S. 500 Presented by Toyota at Brooklyn, Mich. (July 24-26), the Molson Indy Vancouver (Sept. 4-6), the Honda Grand Prix of Monterey Featuring the Texaco/Havoline 300 at Monterey, Calif. (Sept. 11-13), the Texaco Grand Prix of Houston (Oct. 2-4) and the Marlboro 500 Presented by Toyota in Fontana, Calif. (Oct. 30-Nov. 1).
