Toronto, Ont. (July 6, 2002) - Tony Kanaan was first this morning in the second practice session for the Molson Indy Toronto.

Kanaan broke the 59-second barrier to cross the line in 58.878, averaging 107.307 mph over the 1.755-mile CART Fed/Ex Championship Series street circuit. His time bettered that of Kenny Brack, who led yesterday's practice session with a time of 59.614 (105.982 mph).

Rounding out the top six in the second practice session were Shinji Nakano (2nd, 59.044, 107.307 mph), Christian Fittipaldi (3rd, 59.126 seconds, 106.857 mph), Cristiano da Matta (4th, 59.168, 106.781), Bruno Junqueira (5th, 59.181, 106.757) and Michael Andretti (6th, 59.195, 106.732).

Da Matta posted the quickest time in yesterday's provisional qualifying session with a 58.487 (108.024 mph). He leads the driver's championship by 26 points over Junqueira. Da Matta held the top spot throughout most of today's practice session until the 64th minute when Kanaan, Nakano, and Fittipaldi surpassed da Matta on the time sheet.
