Justin and RuSPORT complete first test with Panoz DP01
Justin and RuSPORT finished their test session at Sebring International Raceway on Thursday after spending three days at the Florida circuit acclimatising to the new Panoz DP01. RuSPORT ran both cars at the test, with Justin in the #9 CDW car and the #10 car piloted by Mario Dominguez.
"It is good to finally get into the new car and get a real feel for the Panoz DP01," said Justin. "We had problems today with the gearbox and shifter system which was a bit frustrating, but I'm confident that the team can sort out the problem. The entire team has been working very hard to get us to this point. It's reassuring to me to see the passion that everyone has to get these cars on track, because the more track time we have, the better understanding we'll have of the DP01. We came away from this test with a lot of positives, but also some work to do."
Reflecting on his early impressions of the DP01 Justin added, "It's a very quick car that's nice to drive. It feels a little more like a Formula 1 car with its high nose and paddle shift. Definitely a more modern car than what we had."
RuSPORT president Jeremy Dale complimented the team for their commitment, hard work and dedication to getting the cars on track. "It was an enormous amount of work and everyone pulled together to get it done", he said. "We also want to compliment Champ Car and Panoz on such a great car. They deserve a lot of credit. The drivers enjoy the car and it will be a big part of moving the series forward."
The RuSPORT team will now return to their base in Loveland, Colorado to work through the data from Sebring and prepare for their next test at MSR Houston on 12th and 13th February.
