Herdez-backed driver Michel Jourdain Jr. after starting from the 21st place was able to gain positions up to 17th after a few laps, during the Motorola 200 race at Road America, in Elkhart Lake, Wisconsin. Eventually, he was placed on the 18th spot, because he was forced to retire due to problems with the fuel pressure of his car.

Michel Jourdain Jr., Car #16, Herdez/Bettenhausen Motorsports: "I am very sad, because we have had seven DNF's in a row and we wanted to achieve a good result here, like last year. The car was running very well during the race and we were improving our performance every single lap. I felt confident that we could make it well. We were saving fuel, but we had to pit early, because the fuel pressure went down and we thought it was a problem with a pickup of the fuel. Later I rejoined the race, but a few laps latter I retired after the carrousel."

Joe Ward, Team Manager, Herdez/Bettenhausen Motorsports: "After starting 21st we moved up to 17th. Unfortunately, once again a mechanical problem put us out of the race after completing 19 laps. We experienced a fuel pressure problem, which the cause is as yet unknown."
