Herdez-backed driver Michel Jourdain Jr. will start from the 16th spot in the Honda Indy 300 race. Problems with an overheating engine left the Mexican unable to improve his time from Friday (1'34.282 at 106.722 mph), which is his weekend's best.

Michel Jourdain Jr., Car #16, Herdez/Bettenhausen Motorsports: "I feel very sad because the car yesterday was very good and we made a lot of changes on the engine and chassis, but we had no chance to test them in the morning. During the last qualifying session we had a problem with the water temperature and I only had one chance to try to set a fast lap, but the car was not better and the track was dirty and windy. That did not help us very much."

Keith Wiggins, General Manager, Herdez/Bettenhausen Motorsports: "I am very disappointed we've been lost the position we had (13th). We had as yet undetermined problem with the engine and we lost part of the session because that."
