Former Formula One driver Johnny Herbert will be joining Charlie Cox and the BBC team to present coverage of Europe's fastest motor race.

Following the race, which takes place at the Northamptonshire track on Saturday 14th, the BBC will broadcast highlights of the CART race at Rockingham on Sunday September 15th from 4.45pm.

Herbert has a wealth of single-seater experience and is no stranger to the Rockingham circuit, having lapped the track in a Champ Car at 199.85mph last year. He will be on hand to give his expert views on the championship which has been won in the past motor sport greats Nigel Mansell, Juan Pablo Montoya and Jaques Villeneuve.

Herbert said, "I am really looking forward to working with the BBC Sport team on the Rockingham 500 and conveying the excitement of what is always an entertaining race."

Charlie Cox said, "I am a huge fan of CART and for the BBC viewers, this race is particularly thrilling. Not only is it the only Championship race in Europe this year, but it is also on an oval track which makes the racing even more intense!"

Rockingham is the 15th of 18 rounds and added spice has been given to the Championship in recent weeks as Scotsman Dario Franchitti has moved up to third in the points behind the current leader Cristiano da Matta and an all-England 'Team St. George' car has been unveiled, which will be driven by Yorkshire young gun Darren Manning.
