IMG And WNCX Team Up For Blood Drive
IMG Motorsports is promoter of the Medic Drug Grand Prix of Cleveland.
(February 11, 1999) - IMG Motorsports, promoter of the Medic Drug Grand Prix of Cleveland, is teaming with Cleveland radio station WNCX-FM on Friday to help replenish the blood supply of the American Red Cross in a show of support for the automobile workers injured in last week's explosion at the Ford Motor Company's Rouge complex in Michigan.
Two workers died and another 19 were hospitalized - 11 in critical condition - as a result of the explosion. The injured sustained a variety of head and internal injuries, as well as first and second degree burns. Because burn patients have an increased need for transfusions, it has been estimated that over the next three weeks, the injured workers could require a collective 90 to 100 pints of blood products each day.
"When we heard about the explosion at the Ford plant in Michigan, we really wanted to help," said Steve Legerski, Media and Marketing Director for IMG Motorsports. "We worked with WNCX and the American Red Cross to piece together a date and thought that the Friday before Valentine's Day would be the perfect day for the blood drive. It's a day for the heart, and we hope that the people of Cleveland will open their hearts and donate blood to help the Ford workers."
The blood drive will begin at 10 a.m. at the American Red Cross Parma Donor Center located at 5585 Pearl Road in Parma. The first 98 donors will receive a pair of general admission tickets to the Medic Drug Grand Prix of Cleveland Presented by Star Bank, June 25-27 at Burke Lakefront Airport.
